Indirect Tax Specialist

Why we need this role
The primary responsibility of the role is to own and lead Global VAT Compliance activities across Colt's operating footprint, ensuring compliance, governance, and continuous improvement of indirect tax processes.
The role acts as a subject matter expert for indirect tax matters, providing independent VAT advice to business stakeholders and supporting strategic business initiatives.
The role owns indirect tax compliance governance, leads interactions with tax authorities and external advisors, manages indirect tax risk, and drives projects to improve compliance efficiency, controls, and reporting processes.
The role is expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy, making informed recommendations and decisions within established governance frameworks.
What you will do
- Own relationships with external VAT advisors and provide strategic direction regarding compliance requirements, risk management and process improvements
- Provide autonomous VAT advice to the business
- Lead the delivery and governance of indirect tax compliance obligations, ensuring timely and accurate submission of returns and related filings.
- Review and approve VAT returns, reconciliations and compliance deliverables prepared by internal teams and external advisors.
- Lead relationships with external advisors and tax authorities and coordinate responses to audits, enquiries and investigations.
- Identify, assess and mitigate indirect tax risks and recommend practical solutions to support business objectives whilst maintaining compliance.
- Drive indirect tax compliance process improvements, automation initiatives to enhance efficiency, control and governance.
- Establish and maintain robust VAT governance frameworks, controls and documented procedures.
- Interpret indirect tax legislative developments, determine organisational impact and lead implementation of required compliance and process changes.
- Provide technical leadership and coaching to finance and tax colleagues, promoting consistent application of VAT policies and best practice.
What we're looking for
- Between 4-7 years’ work experience handling European and UK VAT Compliance (ie. preparation, review, reconciliation, support with business queries, etc)
- Prior working experience in VAT Advisory.
- Must be able to work with a high deal of accuracy.
- Analytical bend of mind.
- Good written and verbal communication, as well as presentation skills.
- Should be able to relate to multi-cultural European customers.
- Strong team mindset with a collaborative approach
- Ability to work under significant pressure and commitment to meet stringent timelines.
- Must possess the skills to work cross-functionally, identify best practices and ensure standardisation.
- Keen to take up extra responsibilities.
- Mind-set of excellent process execution and continuous improvement.
- Good command of Word, Excel and Power Point.
- Must be inquisitive, open to learning and keen to pursue any opportunity for self-development.
Might haves:
- Newly or Part qualified Chartered Accountant
- Knowledge of Data Analytics tools such as PowerBI or Alteryx.
- Curiosity about leveraging technology and AI tools to enhance VAT compliance, reporting and process efficiency
