Responsible for overseeing the thorough testing, verification, and validation process of data centre infrastructure before it becomes operational.

Job Summary

Our Commissioning Specialist Engineer will ensure that the Data Centres that we design and build, operate as expected. They work across the entire span of a project. At the start, they ensure that the designs and concepts will work in practice, and can be tested to prove that. As the project progresses, they work with internal and external partners to test and validate what has been constructed works as expected, and drive the delivery of commissioning activities. They are customer facing, and must keep our customers update on Commissioning progress, and give them confidence that Colt is a business they can trust. They work with the wider project team to keep internal stakeholders up to date with Commissioning progress.
 
OUTCOMES
 
•    Give internal and external customers/ stakeholders confidence in Colts Commissioning process
•    Deliver commissioning activity to time/cost/quality. Using initiative and common sense to balance the competing requirements.
•    Ensure new designs can be commissioned sensibly within programme time and budget constraints
•    Work collaboratively with the project team
•    Develop strong working relationships at senior levels with a pool of external Commissioning agent companies
•    Works will include some short visits to our main European hubs in London, Frankfurt and Paris.


 

Job Description

THE TEAM
 
The role sits within Colt DCS’s Global Real Estate team’s Design & Construction Department. Reporting to the Global Head of Commissioning, you are responsible for Commissioning within the European Region. You are a key part of the project team, working collaboratively alongside construction project managers, design managers and senior management teams. The commissioning team ensures that Colt DCS will get a return on it’s investments, by validating that what is deployed operates as expected during the design phase of the project.
 
THE SKILLS / EXPERTISE YOU BRING
 
•    Able to give confidence in the project commissioning activities internally and with Colt DCS customers
•    Has a good understanding of data centre engineering principles, and the practical understanding of how systems operate once installed
•    Able to manage programmes and budgets
•    Must have a mix of engineering & delivery capability
•    Ability to manage, and take measured decision regarding project risk
•    Knowledge of the Ashrae level 1-6 data centre commissioning process
•    Able to apply different management styles as needed – e.g. with internal teams, external consultants, difficult contractors etc.
